Chairman's Comments

February 15, 2010 was a snowy evening yet nine wine tasting extraordinaires braved the weather and attended the wine tasting social at Chateau Thomas (Plainfield, IN). The tour was great! The grapes were great! The wine was superb! We will definitely do this again in the future.

Don’t forget to read the February 2010 issue of Advanced Materials & Processes. Page twenty six features an article by a Past Chair and very active member of our chapter William Jarosinski, now co-editor of the Thermal Spray Society Newsletter. Page forty two also shows a picture of yet another Past Chair and very active member of our Chapter, Ann Bolcavage. Ann, a member of the ASM National Nominating Committee, also serves as Chair of the Membership, Marketing and Outreach Committee of the Thermal Spray Society. Monday evening Ann attended the Wine Tasting event and mentioned how exciting it was last week to teach solidification during the second of the thirteen week metallurgy for non- metallurgist course. Thanks again Rolls Royce for hosting the training course!

Next month March 22, 2010 Chuck Hayes, Executive Director of the ASM Foundation will be visiting us at Purdue University. Chuck is a long time friend of mine. We worked together in the early 2000s while setting up the ASM Materials Teachers Training Camp at Princeton University (NJ). This is Chuck’s first visit to the Hoosier State and its for a good cause. Purdue University is planning to host an ASM Camp and Chuck will discuss what will be needed from the University and the Chapter to get this initiative started.

As my term as chairman winds down, I must say, that this is the best of the three chapters I’ve chaired over the years. Andrew Ivanov has completed our 2009-2010 chapter e- year book. In this soon to be released edition, I will introduce the incoming officers. So far it has been a very exciting and successful year and from what I have seen so far from the upcoming officers, we will continue to be a Five Star Chapter of Excellence for many years to come.
