All,
As my term as Chair is approaching an end, it is of utmost importance that I look ahead at the future of the Chapter. Selection of next years officers are a very important part of my job as Chair. Usually, a nominating committee is formed which creates a list of potential candidates. This year, I have been approached by several young energetic individuals who have offered their service to lead/ guide the future of the Indy Chapter.
Dr. Li Li is a R&D engineer in Praxair Surface Technologies Inc. in Indianapolis, Indiana. Prior to his current position, he had spent one and half years working as a post-doc researcher in materials department of University of California at Santa Barbara. Dr. Li received his Ph. D. in materials science and engineering from Stony Brook University, New York, 2004, his master degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Akron, Ohio, 2000, and his bachelor’s degree in welding engineering from Chongqing University, China, 1995.
Dr. Vinay Deodeshmukh received a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Iowa State University in 2007 under the guidance of Prof. Brian Gleeson. His research work involved hot corrosion and oxidation behavior of Pt-modified Ni- and Co-based alloys and coatings. He received a M.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2002. He worked under Prof. Dhanesh Chandra on aqueous corrosion behavior of carbon steel for the Yucca Mountain repository. Prior to his graduate studies, he received a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Government College of Engineering Pune, India. After this, he was employed as a Production Engineer for a year in the Investment Casting division of a jewelry manufacturing company. In 2007, Dr. Deodeshmukh joined the staff of R&T Department of Haynes International, Inc. He is currently involved in studying the high temperature corrosion behavior of various Ni- and Co-, and Fe-based alloys. Dr. Deodeshmukh has authored number of technical publications in the area of high temperature corrosion and aqueous corrosion. He received Mars Fontana Award (3rd place) in 2005 for best posters in Corrosion Engineering and Marcel Pourbaix Award (3rd place) in 2006 for the best posters in Corrosion Science during the NACE meetings.
Anne Stockdale graduated from Iowa State University in May of 2009 with a degree in Materials Engineering. In 2007 she was involved in electronic coatings research as an intern at Rockwell Collins Inc. In 2008, she was involved in composites research as an intern at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. She currently works at Rolls- Royce LibertyWorks as a materials researcher. Anne has extensive study abroad research experiences: Uxbridge, England (2005), St. Petersburg, Russia (2007), and Mali, Africa (208/ 2009); leadership experiences Iowa State University tutor leader and leadership workshop co- chair; and ASM experiences: Preseident of Materials Advantage (2008/2009), Vice President of Materials Advantage (2007/ 2008), and Materials Advantage Fundraising Chair (2006/ 2007).
Please send me you comments / preferences as soon as possible so next years officers can be announced during the April ASM Meeting.
Hope to see all on March 22, 2010 at Purdue University where my good friend Charles Hayes, Executive Director of the ASM Foundation will talk to us about the foundation and Material Camp Activities. Meeting/ dinner starts at 7pm---- check website for more information.I will send out a few more announcements as the day draws near.
